Company Profile

Lumitest is a privately owned healthcare company that develops and commercializes a proprietary innovative method of measuring the Oxidative Stress within body fluids and tissue suspensions.

Oxidative Stress is a novel health risk factor - a particular kind of chemical stress, which is induced by the presence, in a living organism, of exaggerate amounts of potentially dangerous compounds called free radicals. Oxidative stress is extremely dangerous because it does not exhibit any symptoms and therefore, it is recognizable with great difficulty by means of common analysis. However, if oxidative stress is not recognized and treated it can accelerate aging process and favour the appearance of several diseases, including stroke, Alzheimer's disease, congestive heart failure, myocardial infarction, ulcerous cholitis, pancreatitis and some kinds of cancer. Therefore, oxidative stress emerges as a novel health risk factor - particularly if prolonged - relatively independent from other well known risk factors, such as cigarette smoking, blood hypertension, hypercholesterolemia and hyperhomocysteinemia.

Oxidative stress or Oxidizability, measured by TCL Analyzer, is proven to be an efficient biomarker for cardiovascular diseases, including, but not limited to CHF (Congestive Heart Failure). CHF is one of the leading consumers of the healthcare system's budget and is growing continuously; The savings reaped from the earlier classification of the 5 million patients with CHF, and creating early alert for the need of hospitalization for those patients will lead to savings of many billions of dollars to the US healthcare system.

Lumitest product, the TCL Analyzer, offers a cost-effective, highly sensitive, rapid assay for the routine clinical monitoring of this key physiological parameter.

Lumitest was founded by Dr. Sergei Shnizer (MD, Ph.D.), an intensive care specialist physician with many years of experience in the use of hyperbaric oxygen for patient treatment.

Dr. Shnizer developed a series of application models based on measuring oxidizability with the TCL assay that allowed him to predict key medical outcomes. Based on this technology, the company was founded in the Technion Enterprise Initiative Center (TEIC), and subsequently raised funds from the Dankner Group, one of Israel's most established industrial concerns. Lumitest is located in industrial Center near Haifa, offering access to high-quality employees and advisers from both key medical/technology centers, such as the Technion and Tel-Aviv University, Rambam, Carmel and Zion medical centers.

Lumitest advisory board is headed by Professor Aaron Ciechanover (MD, D.Sc.). Professor Ciechanover is the Nobel Prize winner in chemistry for 2004, for the discovery of ubiquitin-mediated protein degradation. He is one of Israel's leading scientists and a renowned biochemistry researcher. Professor Ciechanover's work in the field of regulated protein degradation pathways is highly regarded by biologists worldwide. In 2000, he received the world-renowned Lasker Award, in honor of his achievements in the field of cell biochemistry. He's also a winner of the Israel Prize 2003. Other scientists who contribute to Lumitest scientific and medical activities are Professor Abraham Reznick from the Rappaport School of medicine in the Technion and Dr. Offer Amir, a senior cardiologist from Carmel Medical center in Haifa, Israel.

The CEO of the company is Bezalel (Tzali) Cnaani. Mr. Cnaani brings with him extensive management experience in Israeli Hi-Tech, including management, marketing and operations.
